Kristin Kirkby Shaw, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVS, DACVSMR
Kristin received her DVM from the University of Florida in 2003. She then completed a rotating internship at Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado followed by a small animal surgery residency at The University of Florida. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008 and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2013. Kristin completed both her MS and PhD at the University of Florida studying ischemia reperfusion injury.
Kristin is currently a surgeon at the Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle. Prior to joining ASCS she practiced as a small animal surgeon and rehabilitation therapist at Seattle Veterinary Specialists and The University of Florida Veterinary Medical Center. In addition to her time in practice, Kristin spent two years in Veterinary Industry, as a Professional Services Veterinarian with Novartis Animal Health and most recently as a Medical Science Liaison with Aratana Therapeutics. Kristin’s experience as a surgeon, rehabilitation therapist and industry veterinarian make her uniquely qualified to speak on the scientific and practical aspects of veterinary pain management.
Kristin is an instructor for the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, has been a regular speaker at ACVS, NAVC, and other national and international conferences, and has authored numerous journal articles and textbook chapters. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Aaron, and French Bulldog, Beans.
