Born and raised in Nebraska, a graduate of Ripon College (WI) and Kansas State University (1997, DVM), spent 12 years in exotic/small animal practice and providing veterinary relief at several zoos; split up by a three year residency at the University of Tennessee in Avian and Zoological Medicine and Surgery, He is currently one of the associate veterinarians at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO and likes letters after his last name, including DABVP (Avian Practice), ACZM, and ABVP (Reptile/Amphibian Practice). He has enjoyed chasing wolverines, American martens, lesser scaup (ducks), sagebrush songbirds, sage grouse, pika, various reptiles/amphibians, green iguanas, and Cape vultures in the wild, in the name of science. He is a Past President of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, a past-ABVP Reptile/Amphibian regent, and a past-Reptile Session Chair for NAVC. He likes to hear himself speak at conferences (especially when translated into Spanish in Mexico and Chile!) and has trouble saying no to writing chapters/articles about things he has no business writing about. In his spare time, he likes trail running.
